Stanley Martin Lieber, AKA Stan “The Man” Lee

Stan Lee is a man famous for his comic writing skills and ingenious creativity as well as his iconic cameos in movies, cartoons, and games. He created the iconic Marvel characters Spider-Man, the X-Men, and Iron Man. Stan Lee died on November 12, 2018 in Los Angeles. Many have been affected by his death.

For example, Junior Asia Tubera said, “Stan Lee will not only be remembered for his creation of these beautiful super heroes, but, he’ll also be remembered for being a super hero himself. Although he has passed away, he will never be forgotten as the father of heroes”

Stan Lee was best known for being the father of heroes, but did you know he was a real life hero himself? Stan Lee was a World War II veteran and was portrayed as one in the movie “Avengers: Age Of Ultron”. He was a Civil Rights Movement activist and published lots of his letters, detailing his beliefs and activism, in his comics.

He was married to Joan Boddak Lee and was born to jewish-romanian immigrants. Did you know he was a writer of obituaries of living celebrities? He believes that if people are writing your obituary while you are still alive, then you are truly living the life.

Cloud 9, formerly known as “ABDC”(A Break Dancing Club), is a break dancing group at Independence High School, consisting of grades 9-12. Currently, they have around 30 members and are always accepting more. Cloud 9 began in 2006/2007 and has been inspiring adolescents to express themselves through dance ever since.

Break dancing was invented in early 1970s Bronx, NY, and became more popular throughout the states during the 70s-80s.

Senior James Nguyen, president of Cloud 9, has been a member since his freshman year and has been dancing since middle school. James says Cloud 9 is “like a family”.

Cloud 9 gathers everyday after school in ‘the shadows’ and they practice for however long they like. Attendance is optional, but showing up is certainly appreciated. They also perform at most rallies and practice during lunch.

“It's not just improving on your skill, but personality too,” Cloud 9 member Steven Doan says on the topic of being a part of the group.
