By Steven Doan With less time in school and holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas approaching, students are ready to ease themselves off from heavy schoolwork. Times like these are usually festive and joyful for most people across the world, with families and friends traveling to exciting destinations and having a worthwhile time. However, do IHS students only plan to have a good rest and a good meal?
As Denise La, a junior unhappily shares, “I sat home and slept for Thanksgiving. The first semester ending makes me anxious because that means finals are near.” Like Denise, it is common for students to use breaks as an advantage to sleep in. Given how school can be stressful, especially towards the end of the year, students like Denise lose sleep time. Finals are something that concerns nearly every student. If failed, they can cause tremendous decline in their grades. Atime for heavy and long study sessions can be a necessity for some. Therefore, having breaks is a bliss for students because they have the option to regain their lost hours of slumber. Another junior, Vy Pham shares, “I spent time with my friends and my family who came from other states visited. It was nice to have a break from school and I’m excited for the Christmas season, but I’m not sure what I have planned.” On the other hand, some students plan reunions with their family or get together with friends in times like these. Whether students prefer slumber over gatherings or vice versa, most would agree having breaks from school is pleasant. Although finals are approaching soon, many highly anticipate Christmas. Finally, Denise enthusiastically announces, “I’m glad Christmas is coming because that means another break!”
