By Steven Doan The Welcome Back Rally was a kick-off to a new school year. A unique aspect of this rally was a male National Anthem singer, a feature that the students of Independence have not seen for a long time. IHS’s first rally happened on September 31st on a Friday at 9 AM in the morning during the Sixers’ spirit week.
According to some audiences, the rally was underwhelming and boring with its performances and games. When ASB wanted more games rather than performances, many students were disappointed because they wished to see more of the clubs be represented. As fellow classmate Cindy Dang stated, “The rally was pretty boring, it should’ve had more clubs performing.” Kami Huynh also said that, “All the clubs should’ve performed for their own ‘promotions’ so the new freshmen would be interested to join.” According to the opinions of these two and many others, many students would like to see more clubs perform in order to entertain and promote themselves to the school, especially the freshmen. Only two clubs performed, while games were hosted between classes, students, and staff members. However, there were student participants that represented their classes, causing them to be enthusiastic. Some Sixers anticipate an upcoming rally for Homecoming, which they believe will have bigger and more exciting performances from clubs (like CLUB, Korean Club, Cloud 9 etc.) than what they saw at the Back to School Rally. “The rally wasn’t exciting, but I’m really looking forward to HOCO though and hope that it’s good.” Jared Aquino said.
